International Guiding

International Selection is for Adults, Guides and Rangers

ICE (International Community Experience) is a three-stage opportunity for Guides aged 11-13.

  • Stage 1: Residential weekend introducing community projects and international experiences.
  • Stage 2: A briefing day to get together and find out more about the final stage.
  • Stage 3: A weekend partaking in a large scale community action project and gaining the skills required to develop community action back in your own unit.

Stage 1 & 2 are currently being run virtually due to COVID-19.

INTOPS (International Opportunities) is a fun-filled, action-packed weekend where you can meet new friends and have a great time. INTOPS provides information about international opportunities available in guiding as well as selecting for GOLD teams.

If you are:

  • 17 - 30 years old
  • Interested in International Guiding
  • Eager to make like-minded friends on a fun weekend
  • Interested in going on a GOLD Project ...then the annual INTOPS (International Opportunities) weekend is for you!

Adult INTOPS (19 -30)

Applications to join Adult INTOPS selections have to be submitted by end of April. Adults do not require to hold any qualifications - all they have to do is be willing to get involved.

INTOPS (14-19)

Guide, and Rangers are selected from 2 different age groups. Group 1 is for 14 to 16 year olds and Group 2 is for 16 to 19 year olds. Girls have to have some camping knowledge and have some experience of “going away with” Guides. All Girls have to be recommended by their Guide Leader and their application must be accompanied by a reference from their Guide Leader. Girls are then invited to attend a County Opportunities event.

Applications are usually submitted by April with the County Opportunities event completed by the beginning of June (Once exams are over). The leading team, made up from experienced County Leaders, will select three girls (One girl will being selected from each age group + a County choice) to go forward to the International Opportunities Camp.

Providing we have enough girls who present for selection the County will choose two reserves - one for each age group Girlguiding Scotland invites all County nominees to participate in an action packed weekend. This final selection is undertaken by some of Scotland’s most senior Guiders and it is at this point the final selection for International Camp is made.

If you are interested or know of someone who is interested, please contact either your Guiding Leader or email us.
