In Guides you'll get out there and do something really different. You'll create your own campaigns, learn and share new skills and fly down the occasional zip wire. You'll explore new places - Guides go on camps, holidays and trips, enjoy exciting events like our star-studded concert the BIG GIG and our music festival, Wellies and Wristbands.

    Girl Guides Programme

    Discovering a world of adventure

You’ll never be stuck for something to do in Guides. Whether you want to dedicate your time to exploring the outdoors, really focus on your hobbies, or challenge yourself with something new, you’ll find something at Guides that suits you. You can work towards interest badges – about photography, geocaching, human rights and more, develop life skills with skills builders and work hard to earn unique awards like the Commonwealth award, the Guide Gold award and the six Theme awards, which will really help you at school and later in life. There are also international opportunities like the International Community Experience (ICE). ICE is an exciting three-stage project open to Girlguiding members aged 11-13. It brings Guides together from all over Scotland to have fun while doing something for others. This is currently being run in a mixed face to face and virtual format.

    What happens next?

Parents/carers will complete an initial enquiry online through a dedicated area of the Girlguiding website by clicking the Join Us link below. Your postcode will generate a geomap of the area and a list will appear of the units nearest where you stay. If you require your child to attend a unit in a different area (e.g. near a grandparent, child minder), then you can generate this postcode to find a unit.  You can choose up to three units. Your enquiry is stored on the system and then sent to the first Unit requested. An email is sent to the members of the Unit team to inform them that there has been an enquiry and asking them to log onto Join Us and pick up a message. Your enquiry will be responded to within 21 days.

When you (parent/carer) have completed the enquiry form and submitted it online, you will get a “thank-you for your enquiry” screen which you can chose to print or have sent in an email. The screen will provide then provide you with some key information including timescales and confirmation of what information you have submitted. You will be advised that “a leader will be in touch by 21 days.” If there are spaces available then the leader will contact you inviting your daughter to a meeting. If your daughter chooses to stay in the Unit, the leader will ensure that the “Welcome to Guiding” forms are completed to get all the relevant information on your daughter, i.e. additional needs, allergies, gift aid and photographs.
